Legal Information

Last updated: 26 October 2026

1. About this legal notice

This legal notice is published by newslura and applies to every page, tool, download and service made available on this website. It does two jobs at once. First, it makes the statutory disclosures that United Kingdom law requires a commercial website operator to publish. Second, it sets out the rules that govern the way the site may be used, the way our material may be reused, and the limits of our responsibility for it.

Nothing on this page reduces the rights the law gives you. Consumers in the United Kingdom keep the mandatory protections of the Consumer Rights Act 2015 and of the Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013, and those protections take priority if anything written here appears to conflict with them.

Because the site is operated from the United Kingdom, this notice is drafted around the law that applies to it: the Companies Act 2006 and the trading disclosure rules made under it, the Electronic Commerce (EC Directive) Regulations 2002 as they form part of United Kingdom law, the Provision of Services Regulations 2009, the United Kingdom General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR), the Data Protection Act 2018, and the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations 2003 (PECR). Where you access the site from another country, local consumer or privacy law may give you additional rights, which we do not intend to restrict.

2. Who we are and the role we play

This website is an independent professional resource dedicated to studio production in motion. Its subject matter covers studio equipment setup, dynamic camera operation, the behaviour of lighting and sound waves, and the design of smooth, high-quality workflows for television news and live shows. It is written for working and trainee professionals: producers, technical directors, camera operators, vision and sound engineers, lighting designers, studio managers, trainers and students on production courses.

We act in three distinct capacities, and it helps to keep them apart when reading this page:

  • As publisher. We are responsible for the editorial material, diagrams, checklists and downloadable templates published on the site, and for keeping them accurate and useful to a professional audience.
  • As data controller. We decide how personal data collected through the site is used, and we are answerable for it under the UK GDPR. The detail is set out in the Privacy Policy and summarised in section 10 of this notice.
  • As supplier. Where we sell a course, licence, consultancy day or other paid service, the Terms and Conditions and any signed statement of work govern that supply.

We are not a broadcaster, a commissioning editor or an employer of the crews described in our material. Where a guide describes rigging, cabling, power distribution, battery handling or any other physical procedure, it does so for editorial and training purposes. The production company or operator carrying out the work remains responsible for the site-specific risk assessment, the method statement and compliance with applicable health and safety legislation.

3. Legal form, registration details, tax identifiers and responsible representatives

3.1 Statutory information we publish

A commercial website operated from the United Kingdom must make it easy for visitors, customers and regulators to identify the business behind it. The following details therefore appear on this page, which is reachable from every other page of the site, and they are repeated in the site footer.

  • Operator and company name: newslura
  • Company Registration Number: 03555097
  • Country and place of registration: England and Wales
  • VAT Registration Number: 477222243
  • Registered office: Beaconsfield Studios, Station Road, Beaconsfield, Buckinghamshire, HP9 1LG
  • Email: [email protected]
  • Telephone: 01494 671234

Footer text (plain text, label: value format, entities separated by vertical bars): newslura | Company Registration Number: 03555097 | VAT Registration Number: 477222243 | Registered Office: Beaconsfield Studios, Station Road, Beaconsfield, Buckinghamshire, HP9 1LG | Email: [email protected] | Telephone: 01494 671234

The shared footer component renders the same line site-wide as newslura | Company Registration Number: 03555097 | VAT Registration Number: 477222243 | Registered Office: Beaconsfield Studios, Station Road, Beaconsfield, Buckinghamshire, HP9 1LG | Email: [email protected] | Telephone: 01494 671234. If any identifier listed above changes, we update this page and the footer at the same time so that the two never contradict each other.

3.2 Legal form and registration

The operator is a private company limited by shares, incorporated and registered in England and Wales with the Registrar of Companies, and it trades under the name shown above. The word "limited" in the registered name signals that the liability of the company's members is limited, and that the company is a separate legal person from the people who run it. The company is registered for Value Added Tax in the United Kingdom.

Any trading name, brand name or product name used on the site is not a separate legal entity. Only the registered company can enter into contracts, issue invoices, hold intellectual property or accept liability. No employee, contributor, freelancer, reseller or affiliate may make a promise, waiver or representation on the company's behalf unless they do so in writing and with proper authority.

3.3 Tax identifiers

Our VAT Registration Number is stated in the list above. It appears on every quote, invoice and credit note we issue, and it can be checked against the public VAT checker maintained by HM Revenue and Customs. Prices shown on the site are in pounds sterling and are stated exclusive of VAT unless a page says otherwise; VAT is added at the rate in force on the date of supply. Business customers outside the United Kingdom are responsible for any local tax, duty or withholding obligation that applies to them. Customers in the European Union who supply a valid VAT registration number are not charged United Kingdom VAT where the reverse charge applies. Tax identifiers are not contact routes: questions about an invoice should go to the email address above, quoting the invoice number.

3.4 Responsible representatives

The company is directed by its board of directors, who are collectively responsible for the site and for the accuracy of the corporate and commercial information published on it. Day-to-day editorial responsibility for the training material rests with the site editor. Responsibility for data protection and information security rests with the person or team identified in the Privacy Policy. Requests about editorial content, corrections, permission to reproduce material, press use or complaints should be sent in writing to [email protected], and we will route them to the person responsible for the subject.

4. Registered office, correspondence and contact routes

4.1 Registered office address

Our registered office is Beaconsfield Studios, Station Road, Beaconsfield, Buckinghamshire, HP9 1LG. This is the official address for company correspondence and for documents served on the company under the Companies Act 2006. It is also the postal address to use for formal notices, for complaints that we have agreed to receive on paper, and for physical returns where a page of the site asks you to send something back to us. Please do not send equipment, storage media or other valuable items to this address without contacting us first to arrange delivery, because we cannot accept responsibility for unsolicited goods.

4.2 How to contact us

Email is usually the fastest route: [email protected]. You can telephone us on 01494 671234 during normal United Kingdom office hours, or use the contact form on the Contacts page, which delivers your message to the same inbox. To help us answer quickly, please include the page, course or resource you are asking about, the name of your organisation, and any deadline you are working to.

4.3 Service of documents

We accept service of legal proceedings at the registered office, or by any other method ordered by a court. A message sent to a general email address is not treated as formal notice under a contract unless the Terms and Conditions or a signed agreement says so. This paragraph does not affect your statutory right to bring a claim, which is dealt with in section 11.

5. Purpose, scope and intended audience of the website

The site exists to help production teams plan and run studio work that depends on movement: tracking and robotic camera moves, jib and pedestal work, dynamic lighting states, live sound capture, and the handovers between gallery, floor and post-production that decide whether a bulletin or a live show runs smoothly. Content is published in English only.

The intended audience is professional and trainee adults aged 18 and over. The site is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 16; if you believe a child has submitted information to us, contact [email protected] and we will delete it.

Our material describes practice that is common in the United Kingdom, and where a technique is regulated differently elsewhere, local law and local licensing prevail. Some resources are free to read. Paid resources, including courses, downloads, templates and consultancy, are supplied under the Terms and Conditions. We may add, rewrite, archive or withdraw content at any time as equipment and working practice change.

6. Access to the site and acceptable use

6.1 What you may do

  • Read, view and print pages for your own professional or personal use.
  • Use our checklists and templates on productions that you or your organisation are running, including commercial productions.
  • Share a short extract with colleagues or in internal training material, provided you attribute it to newslura and do not present it as your own work.
  • Link to our pages from your own website or internal documentation.

6.2 What you may not do

  • Copy, republish, resell or redistribute substantial parts of the site, or make it available as part of a paid resource, without our written permission.
  • Use automated tools to crawl, scrape or bulk-download the site, or to build a database or training dataset from it.
  • Remove or obscure copyright notices, watermarks or attribution.
  • Attempt to bypass access controls, paywalls or registration requirements, or probe, scan or overload our systems.
  • Upload malicious code, or use the site to send spam, phishing messages or unlawful content.
  • Misrepresent your identity or your connection with us, or suggest that we endorse your product or service.

6.3 Accounts, security and suspension

Where an account is required, you must give accurate registration details, keep your password confidential, and tell us promptly at [email protected] if you believe your credentials have been compromised. Accounts are personal and may not be shared or resold. We may suspend or close access if these rules are broken, if we are required to do so by law, or if suspension is needed to protect the site or other users, and we will explain the reason where we lawfully can.

7. Ownership and permitted use of content, trade marks and other intellectual property

7.1 What we own

All text, diagrams, illustrations, photographs, video, audio, data compilations, page layouts, source code and downloadable files on this site are protected by copyright, database rights and, where relevant, design and trade mark law. Rights are owned by newslura or licensed to it by contributors, and all rights are reserved. The name newslura, together with our logos, course names and section names, are trade marks or trade names of the operator. Nothing on this page grants you any licence to use them.

7.2 What you may do

You may quote a short extract for review, teaching, news reporting or academic work, with clear attribution to newslura and, where practical, a reference to the page it came from. You may quote our material in professional discussion, tenders and internal reports in the same way. Quotation must be fair and must not misrepresent the meaning of the original or imply endorsement.

7.3 What you may not do

You may not reproduce whole articles, guides or course modules, translate them, adapt them, sell them, or use them to train machine learning or generative systems, without a written licence. We expressly reserve our rights in respect of text and data mining to the fullest extent permitted by law. Requests for commercial licensing, syndication or republication should be sent to [email protected].

7.4 Material you send us

If you send us a case study, correction, comment or suggestion, you confirm that you have the right to share it and you grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to use, edit and publish it in connection with the site. You keep ownership of your own material. Do not send us confidential information, third-party footage or anything you are not entitled to disclose.

8. Accuracy, availability and proportionate limits of liability

8.1 Accuracy of technical content

We take care to describe equipment, lighting, sound and workflow practice accurately, and we review material as standards and hardware change. Even so, studio practice depends on local conditions: ceiling heights, power capacity, rigging points, spectrum licensing, battery chemistry and crew competence all vary. Nothing on the site is a substitute for the manufacturer's instructions, a competent risk assessment, or the judgement of a qualified person on site. If you spot an error, tell us at [email protected] so that we can correct it.

8.2 Availability and maintenance

We aim to keep the site available at all times, but we do not promise uninterrupted access. Pages may be unavailable during maintenance, updates, hosting incidents or events outside our reasonable control, including network failures and cyber attacks. We may change, suspend or withdraw any part of the site, including free resources, without notice.

8.3 Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, we exclude liability for loss of profit, loss of business, loss of opportunity, loss of data and indirect or consequential loss arising from use of the site. Our total liability in connection with the site or any paid resource is limited to the amount you paid us for the relevant resource in the twelve months before the claim arose. Nothing in this notice excludes or limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, for breach of the terms implied by section 49 of the Consumer Rights Act 2015, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be excluded. If you are a consumer, your statutory remedies for faulty digital content or services remain fully available.

9. External links and third-party content

The site may refer to manufacturers, studios, software vendors, standards bodies, training providers and other third-party resources, and some pages may embed third-party media players, maps or fonts. These references are provided for professional convenience only. We do not control external websites, we do not monitor their content, and a reference is not an endorsement, a recommendation or a guarantee of quality, safety or availability.

When you follow an external reference or interact with embedded content, the third party's own terms, privacy notice and cookie practices apply, and they may collect information about you directly. If a third-party provider becomes unsuitable, unavailable or unlawful, we may remove the reference without notice. Any complaint about an external site should be directed to the operator of that site.

10. Privacy, cookies and the related policies that apply

10.1 Personal data

We process personal data in accordance with the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018. In outline, we collect the information you give us through the contact form and any account registration, together with limited technical information such as IP address, browser type and pages viewed. We use it to answer enquiries, provide the resources you request, keep the site secure, understand which material is useful, and meet our legal and accounting obligations. Our lawful bases are performance of a contract, our legitimate interests in running and improving the site, your consent where we rely on it, and compliance with legal duties.

We keep personal data only as long as it is needed for the purpose it was collected for, and then delete or anonymise it. We share it only with service providers who help us host, secure and analyse the site, and with professional advisers, regulators or courts where we are required to do so. You have the right to be informed, to access your data, to have inaccurate data corrected, to have data erased, to restrict or object to processing, and to data portability. To exercise any of these rights, write to [email protected]. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office, the United Kingdom supervisory authority for data protection.

10.2 Cookies and the cookie banner

The site uses a cookie banner to ask for your choices before any non-essential cookies or similar technologies are set, in line with PECR. Strictly necessary cookies, which are needed to deliver pages, keep sessions secure and remember your cookie choices, are set on the basis of our legitimate interests and cannot be switched off. Analytics or preference cookies are set only if you agree, and you can change or withdraw your consent at any time through the banner or your browser settings. Blocking cookies may mean that some features, such as forms, do not work as intended.

10.3 Other documents that apply

The following documents form part of the terms on which you use this site, and should be read alongside this legal notice:

  • The Privacy Policy: how we collect, use, store, share and delete personal data, and how to exercise your rights.
  • The Cookie Policy: the cookies and similar technologies used, their purposes and durations, and how to manage them.
  • The Terms and Conditions: the contractual rules for using the site and for buying and accessing paid resources.
  • The Payment and Refund Policy: prices, VAT, payment methods, cancellations, refunds and returns.
  • The Accessibility Statement: how accessible the site is and how to report a barrier.
  • The Acceptable Use rules set out in section 6 of this notice.

Where a document listed above conflicts with this notice on a matter of contract, the more specific document prevails for the subject it covers.

11. Applicable law, competent courts and consumer dispute rights

This notice, and any dispute or claim arising out of or in connection with it or with the site, is governed by the law of England and Wales. Subject to the paragraph below, the courts of England and Wales have exclusive jurisdiction.

If you are a consumer, you may bring proceedings in the courts of the part of the United Kingdom in which you live, and you keep the benefit of the mandatory consumer protections of the law of your place of residence. If you are a business, the courts of England and Wales have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute, and you agree to that forum.

We do not participate in alternative dispute resolution procedures before an approved ADR body in relation to consumer complaints, and we are not obliged to do so. Before starting proceedings, please raise the issue with us first at [email protected]: most problems are resolved quickly when we know about them, and we will always try to agree a practical outcome within a reasonable time. Nothing in this section prevents either party from applying to a court for urgent relief, or from using any statutory or regulatory complaints route that is available to you.

12. Accessibility, complaints and monitoring

We want the site to be usable by all professional visitors, including people who rely on screen readers, keyboard navigation, captions or transcript files. We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines at level AA for the pages we control, and we welcome reports of any barrier you meet. Please write to [email protected] with the page, the problem and the assistive technology you were using, and we will investigate and respond.

If you are unhappy with anything about the site, a resource or our service, please raise it with us in the first instance, in writing, describing what happened and what outcome you are seeking. Complaints are handled by the person responsible for the relevant area and reviewed by a senior member of the team. We keep records of complaints and use them to improve the site.

13. Contact route, changes to this notice and last-updated date

We review this legal notice regularly, and we will update it whenever our registrations, tax status, contact arrangements, policies or legal obligations change. The current version always appears on this page, and the date shown at the top tells you when it was last revised. If a change materially affects your rights or how we handle personal data, we will give reasonable notice on the home page or by email before the change takes effect, and where the law requires it we will ask for your consent.

If any part of this notice is found to be invalid or unenforceable, that part will be read down or removed and the remaining parts will continue to apply. A failure to enforce a provision on one occasion is not a waiver of it.

You can reach us at any time about this notice using the contact routes set out in section 4: email [email protected], telephone 01494 671234, or the contact form on the Contacts page. Postal correspondence should be addressed to Beaconsfield Studios, Station Road, Beaconsfield, Buckinghamshire, HP9 1LG. The statutory identifiers for the operator are collected in section 3, and the plain-text footer line that carries them appears in the same section.
